Next generation to retain govt’s achievements: NHRC chairman

RANGPUR, July 4, 2018 (BSS) – Chairman of the National Human Rights
Commission (NHRC) Kazi Reazul Hoque has said the next generation will retain
all achievements of the present pro-children government.

“So why, human rights of the children should be protected in the family,
education and workplace,” Hoque said while addressing a views-sharing meeting
held at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner here today as the chief
guest.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib presided over the meeting titled “Role of
all concerned to stop violence against children” organised by the district
administration with assistance of the World Vision Bangladesh (WVB).

Member of NHRC Nurunnahar Osmani, Vice-chancellor (VC) of Begum Rokeya
University Professor Dr Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, Superintendent of Police
Mizanur Rahman, Acting President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed
and Director of WVB Chandan Gomes spoke as special guests.

Government officials, heads of different government departments,
educational institutions and different organisations working for establishing
human rights, teachers, civil society members and socio-cultural activists
attended the meeting.

Earlier, separate presentations were delivered in the meeting on the
Children’s Act, 2013, Domestic Worker Protection and Welfare Policy, 2015,
Announcement of the Ministry of Education, 2010, High Court Rule, 2010 and
overall activities of NHRC.

The NHRC Chairman said the government has been providing cost-free legal
aid to the poor and distressed people through the district judges all over
the country by appointing lawyers on behalf of them for ensuring justice for
them.

“Similarly, over 100 panel lawyers appointed by the NHRC are working in the
country,” he said, adding that a regional office of the commission would be
set up at all divisional headquarters to make its activities more dynamic.
