JS body for steps to stop illegal power disconnection, load shedding

DHAKA, Sept 30, 2020 (BSS) – The parliamentary committee on Government Assurances today recommended the concerned ministry to take necessary steps to eliminate illegal power disconnection, abnormal and unwanted power outages or electricity bill and load shedding.

The recommendation was made at the 14th meeting of the committee chaired by its chairman Professor Md. Ali Ashraf, in the Sangsad Bhaban, according to a press release.

The committee also recommended the concerned ministry to implement the promises made by the prime minister, ministers or state ministers in a timely manner.

At the meeting, the parliamentary watchdog emphasized on the mega projects of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and suggested to complete the work of the projects within the stipulated time.

It also suggested the concerned ministry to stop deforestation, plant more trees and ensure that brick kilns are being operated following proper guidelines to protect the country from the adverse effects of climate change.

Besides, they suggested the Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) to play a strong role in overseeing the quality improvement of project works to ensure transparency and accountability.

Committee members Md Mazibul Hoque, Ghulam Muhammed Quader, Fakhrul Imam and Gulam Mohammad Siraj joined the meeting.

Energy and Mineral Resources Division Senior Secretary Anisur Rahman, Power Secretary Dr Sultan Ahmed, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Secretary Ziaul Hasan, senior officials of the Ministries, heads of various agencies and concerned officials of the Secretariat were present.
