DHAKA, Sept 27, 2020 (BSS)- Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said conspiracies of those, who halted the wheels of the country’s development through corruption and misrule in the past, are going on to impede the ongoing progress of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“The conspirators chose the path of intrigues after failing to face Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman politically and killed him. Even now, the intriguers who have failed to face Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina politically and who cannot tolerate the progress and indomitable pace of development, are out to hatch conspiracies,” he added.

For this, secret meetings were held in the Middle East and different other places in Dhaka, Hasan said, addressing a book unveiling function at the meeting room of his ministry at secretariat in the capital.

Later, Hasan unwrapped the book titled ‘Sheikh Hasinar JibanKotha’,authored by Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) secretary general Saban Mahmud.

Senior journalist Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, former justice of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, the daily Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Noeem Nizam and author of the book Saban Mahmud, among others, also took part in the function.

Hasan said they (intriguers) tried to kill incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina 19 times and they are still hatching conspiracies one after another.

Urging all to remain alert against conspiracies, the information minister said, “On the eve of the 74th birthday of our leader Sheikh Hasina, this is our expectation that she (Sheikh Hasina) will lead us for many years. And the country would reach its dream destination.”

He said the life of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is an episode of a struggling life. This struggle has not only started after the assassination of Bangabandhu, her whole life is a journey of struggle, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

The information minister said Bangabandhu was in jail for most of the time of his life after her (Sheikh Hasina) birth. She became the President of Awami League in a very unfavourable situation, he added.

He said next February will see the 40th anniversary of Sheikh Hasina’s taking over the charge of Awami League President, and next May 17 will be the 40th anniversary of her home-coming day.

“In the last 40 years, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always stood beside the people in all disasters, crises and movements,” he added.

He said the Premier never got upset after returning from the death-valley repeatedly, rather she (Sheikh Hasina) moved forward with more strength and courage. “She has established democracy and the rights of people to vote.

Bangladesh is now self-reliant in food and the country has been turned into a middle income nation from least developed one. Bangladesh is now a role model of development before the world. The example set up by Bangladesh in bringing about socio-economic development is universally accepted and recognized today in the world community,” he added.

Hasan praised the author of the book Saban Mahmud and congratulated him for writing it.

He said the book will assist people, who know Sheikh Hasina now as Prime Minister and Awami League President, to know her as leader Sheikh Hasina.

In his speech, Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury outlined different aspects of the book, describing it as unique in fully knowing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik thanked the author of the book.

Noeem Nizam said people will know about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from the book.

Shaban Mahmud paid deep respect to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her 74th birthday and dedicated the book to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib.

The book contains different incidents of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s life and rare photos.
