JS committee asks to complete online news portal registration quickly

DHAKA, Sept 27, 2020 (BSS) – The parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Information today recommended the concerned ministry to quickly complete the registration of the online news portal as the government has made registration mandatory for running online news portals.

The recommendation was placed at the 6th meeting of the parliamentary committee with committee chairman Hasanul Haq Inu in the chair.

Committee members and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud, Kazi Keramat Ali, Begum Simin Hossen Rimi, Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, M Murad Hasan, Saimum Sarwar Kamal and Mamta Hena Lovely participated at the meeting.

The committee in its recommendations also asked the ministry to fix the license fee of new and old television with an immediate effect and to give a feedback to the committee at its next meeting.

The JS committee also has suggested for developing separate wings for broadcasting radio and television under a new media.

To mark the birth anniversary of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on September 28, the committee also greeted the premier and sought her long and sound health and peaceful life.

Information Secretary Kamrunnahar, Director General of Bangladesh Betar Hosneara Talukder, Bangladesh Television Director General SM Harun-Ar Rashid and officials from different bodies under the ministry, among others, attended the meeting.
