DHAKA, Sept 23, 2020 (BSS)—Fast bowler Abu Jayed Rahi was the only player amongst the 27,who were called up in skill training camp for Sri Lanka series, to be tested positive for the COVID-19.

The test, termed as the first official corona test, was conducted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday. Rahi who has already been isolated, will receive treatment as per COVID-19 guidelines before undergoing further tests in due course, said BCB sports physician Dr. Debashis Chowdhury.

“Pace bowler Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi has reported positive for COVID-19,” Dr. Chowdhury said here today.

“He will receive treatment in isolation for COVID as per guidelines and will undergo further tests in due course.”

Samples were collected from 27 cricketers called up to Bangladesh’s skill training camp with test results of 26 returning negative.

Officially, the Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) has asked the BCB to do two tests before the tour of the country. While the first test is conducted, the second is on September 25, Dr. Chowdhury further said.

BCB earlier tested the players and support staff twice. The BCB conducted those two tests on its own initiative in order to know the condition of the cricketers. It had nothing to do with the series against Sri Lanka

Meanwhile, the SLC is yet to respond on quarantine period issue as Bangladesh made it clear they won’t stay 14-day quarantine rather they prefer seven-day quarantine with practice facilities.
