RANGPUR, Sept 16, 2020 (BSS) – Around 89.01 percent Coronavirus (COVID-19) infected patients recovered since the beginning till Wednesday morning in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

“A total of 10,049 COVID-19 patients out of 11,289 infected have already recovered at the recovery rate of 89.01 per cent in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The recovery rate continues increasing consistently following improved treatments being provided to the patients amid a significant falling trend in the daily infection rate in the division in recent weeks.

“The number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 10,049 with the healing of 148 more infected people on Tuesday alone across the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The 10,049 recovered COVID-19 patients include 2,294 of Rangpur, 517 of Panchagarh, 946 of Nilphamari, 714 of Lalmonirhat, 778 of Kurigram, 750 of Thakurgaon, 3,141 of Dinajpur and 909 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Meanwhile, only 25 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported after testing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory in Rangpur on Tuesday raising their total number to 11,289 in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 11,289 patients stands at 2,680 in Rangpur, 557 in Panchagarh, 993 in Nilphamari, 815 in Lalmonirhat, 864 in Kurigram, 1,032 in Thakurgaon, 3,240 in Dinajpur and 1,108 Gaibandha districts.

“We have so far tested a total of 63,440 collected samples of Rangpur division till Thursday night, and of them, 11,289 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 17.79 per cent,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The average COVID-19 infection rate stands at 17.79 percent which is five times less that the recovery rate of 89.01 per cent till Tuesday morning in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Sultan Ahmed said the total number of fatalities remained steady at 204 in the division as no more deaths reported from Dinajpur and Thakurgaon on Tuesday.

The district-wise break up of the 204 fatalities stands at 45 in Rangpur, 71 in Dinajpur, 20 each in Thakurgaon and Nilphamari, 14 each in Gaibandha and Kurigram, 11 in Panchagarh and nine in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate among the total 11,289 infected patients currently stands at over 1.80 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 11,283 COVID-19 infected patients, 86 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 10,049 patients and 204 deaths while 950 remaining in home isolations.

“Since the beginning, a total of 77,168 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 72,509 released and 4,659 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines,” Dr. Ahmed added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu today said the infection rate continues to decline while the recovery rate increases in recent weeks in the division.

Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Zakir Hossain said inclusive steps have been taken to provide improved health services to the infected patients and inspire the people in abiding by the health directives to prevent COVID-19 spread.
