Flood damages Tk 96.77cr crops in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, Aug 12, 2020 (BSS) – The second phase flood has damaged standing crops on 12,863 hectares of land causing production losses of crops worth Taka 96.77 crore this season in the district.

According to Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) the second phase flood hit in the district on July 9 and lasted till August 6. The flood, during the period, submerged 12,863 hectares of land of various crops in all the seven upazilas of the district.

The flood has affected 1,09,037 farmers of seven upazilas in the districts by damaging their standing crops, a DAE official said.

The flood damaged T-Aman seed bed worth of Taka 15.17 crore.

Besides, the flood damaged Aush rice worth of Taka 29.74 crore, jute worth Taka 29.34 crore, vegetable worth Taka 16.78 crore, maize worth Taka 11.55 lakh, green chili worth Taka 3.56 crore, sugarcane worth Taka 27.50 lakh, banana worth Taka 1.74 crore and sesame worth Taka 3.24 lakh.

In the first phase of flood hit on June 27 damaged crops of Taka 43.52 crore.
Deputy Director of DAE Md Aminul Islam said post flood rehabilitation programmes on agriculture are being implemented to recoup the loss caused by the flood in the district.
