Outgoing Indian high commissioner meets state minister for culture

DHAKA, August 10, 2020 (BSS) – The outgoing Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das paid a farewell visit to State Minister for Cultural affairs KM Khalid at his office at Secretariat this afternoon.

During the meeting, they discussed India’s cooperation in preserving important archeological sites and managing museums, including enhancing cultural ties between the two friendly neighbors.

The state minister sought India’s technical assistance in preserving and restoring various cultural and heritage sites, including archeological sites and museums.

Assuring the state minister, the outgoing Indian high commissioner said that India was ready to extend necessary cooperation in this regard by organizing training, seminars, and workshops. Even at this time of the Corona epidemic, such training, seminars, workshops can be organized online.

KM Khalid said, “A team of Indian experts has recently visited Panama City for its preservation and restoration, we are awaiting their report, based on the report, we want to start work quickly”.

Reva informed that the expert team has given its opinion on the conservation of Panama City using internal resources.

Khalid said Bangladesh and India share a common history and culture, about 11,000 Indian soldiers were martyred in the great war of liberation.

On the occasion of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence, Bangladesh is constructing a memorial to commemorate the contribution of the martyrs of the Indian Allied Forces in the war of independence of Bangladesh, he said.

“I hope the cultural programmes on Bangabandhu’s life would be organised soon after the decreasing of COVID-19 incident in various states of India to mark the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,” he added.

“We are organizing various online cultural activities on the occasion of Mujib Year,” said Riva.

“The work of developing the infrastructure of Shilaidaha Kuthibari in Kushtia, which is associated with Rabindra Smriti, is about to complete with Indian grant,” she said.
