Bangamata was an inspirer of Bangladesh’s freedom-loving people: Khaleque

KHULNA, Aug 9, 2020 (BSS) – Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque has said Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib was not only the wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she worked as an inspirer of freedom-loving people of Bangladesh.

Calling Bangamata as an extraordinary woman, the mayor said she had silently worked for the liberation of the Bengali nation.

He came up with the statement while presiding over a meeting organised by Khulna city and district units of Awami League (AL) yesterday evening marking 90th birth anniversary of Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnesa Mujib.

Khaleque said, when Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was in jail, Fazilatunnesa Mujib dedicated herself to welfare of Bengali nation and quietly worked to organize the freedom-loving people and lead them to the liberation war. “But her (Bangamata) contribution was not revealed in that way. Today we learn a lot from the history,” he said.

AL district and city units’ general secretaries advocate Sujit Adhikari and MDA Babul Rana, senior AL leaders advocate Chishty Sohrab Hossain Shikder and Kazi Badsha Mia, among others, addressed.

To mark the day, recitation from the holy Quran, milad and doa mahfil were arranged and tributes paid to Bangamata by placing wreaths at her portrait at the party office here.

Meanwhile, Jubo League city unit has distributed food-stuff among orphanages and destitute children at city’s different ward while Khulna district administration handed over swing machines and cash money among distressed women.
