Country’s sports and cultural foundation developed with Sheikh Kamal’s hand

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2020 (BSS) – Noted politicians and other cultural personalities attending a webinar last night said that the sports and cultural foundation of the newly independent Bangladesh were developed among the youngsters with the hand of Shahid Sheikh Kamal.

The speakers said this at the online live programme held at 8:30pm on Wednesday marking 71st birth anniversary of great freedom fighter, noted sports and cultural organizer Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Freedom fighter and noted dramatist Nasir Uddin Yousuf Bacchu, cultural personality M Hamid, noted sports organizer and Awami League sports secretary Harun-Ur –Rashid, Senior sports journalist Aghor Mondol and photo journalist Pavel Rahman joined the programme as discussants through the online zoom.

Recalling the contribution of Shahid Sheikh Kamal, noted dramatist Nasir Uddin Yousuf Bacchu said, “the ingredients of the national culture was founded by Sheikh Kamal and as a result, now the cultural phenomenon is being reared among the young generation.”

Even he [Sheikh Kamal] led his life as a simple man, but he had no ‘boastfulness’ as he was a son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said Bacchu at the function organized by Bangladesh Awami League.

The young generation will remember Sheikh Kamal as the noted sports organizer and sports veteran, said sports journalist Aghor Mondol, adding that “there is no scope to forget such sports icon.”

The programme was sponsored by the AL’s research wing Center for Research and Information while noted columnist and former student leader Subash Singha Roy moderated it.

“Kamal was a 26-year old youth, but the contribution which he had left was rare one”, said Awami League Sports Affairs Secretary and Sheikh Kamal’s friend Harun-Ur-Rashid.
