Sheikh Kamal’s 71st birth anniversary celebrated in Washington DC

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2020 (BSS) – The 71st birth anniversary of Shaheed Sheikh Kamal, the valiant freedom fighter and eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu, was celebrated in a befitting manner at Bangladesh Embassy in USA’s capital Washington D.C.

The Bangladesh mission organised a discussion on Wednesday on the life and works of Sheikh Kamal recalling his extraordinary contributions to the national life, ranging from sports and culture to politics and patriotism, said a press release received here today.

The embassy also screened a documentary on life of Sheikh Kamal and cut a birthday cake and arranged special prayers.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the USA Mohammad Ziauddin and minister (press) Shamim Ahmad took part in the discussion while first secretary and head of chancery Md Mahmudul Islam conducted the programme.

Paying rich tributes to Sheikh Kamal, Ambassador Ziauddin characterized him as an icon of the new and future generations of Bangladeshis.

He said Sheikh Kamal devoted his time to reorganising and modernizing Bangladesh’s sports and cultural bodies to praiseworthy level and dreamt of raising football, cricket and hockey to international standards.
