137 more positive tests for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Aug 4, 2020 (BSS) – More 137 people were tested positive
for coronavirus today at two COVID-19 laboratories in Rangpur division
where a limited scale community transmission of the deadly virus
continues at places in recent weeks.

Health officials said the 137 new infected cases were reported
after diagnosing 376 samples collected from all eight districts in the
division at the two laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur.

Of them, 56 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at
the COVID-19 Laboratory today at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in
Rangpur city.

“The new 56 patients include 32 of Rangpur, nine of Lalmonirhat,
two of Gaibandha, 12 of Kurigram and one of Nilphamari,” Chief of
Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal
of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, the highest number of 81 more new patients was
reported in a day today after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19
Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur
district town.

“The 81 new COVID-19 patients include 80 of Dinajpur and one of
Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker
told BSS after completing the testing process at 7 pm.

Among the 80 new COVID-19 infected patients of Dinajpur, three, with
one each came from Joypurhat, Khulna and Dhaka districts, to their
relatives in Dinajpur before the Eid-ul-Azha festivity, Dr. Sarker
added.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19
patients stridently rose to 6,736 as 137 new cases were reported from
across the division.

“The district-wise break up of the total 6,736 patients currently
stands at 1,768 in Rangpur, 345 in Panchagarh, 672 in Nilphamari, 428
in Lalmonirhat, 541 in Kurigram, 428 in Thakurgaon, 1,867 in Dinajpur
and 687 in Gaibandha,” Dr. Khan said.
