DHAKA, Aug 4, 2020 (BSS) – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his warmest greetings to his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of holy Eid-ul-Azha.
PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the Indian premier extended the greetings by sending a message to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday.
“On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, I would like to extend my warmest greetings to the people and the government of Bangladesh,” the press secretary quoted Modi’s message as saying.
The Indian prime minister said the festival of Eid-ul-Azha, which is also celebrated in several parts of India, reminds “us of our deep historical and cultural links”.
“We hope that this festival will further enhance the spirit of peace and tolerance in our respective societies and promote fraternal ties between our two countries,” he added.
Modi wished Sheikh Hasina and all the people of Bangladesh good health and prosperity on the auspicious occasion, the press secretary said.
While talking about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Indian premier highly praised the measures being taken in Bangladesh under the able leadership of Sheikh Hasina.
“As both our countries continue to deal with the COVlD-19 situation, we appreciate the steps being taken in Bangladesh under your able leadership,” he said.
Modi expressed his confidence that Bangladesh will tide over these challenging times. “We remain available to support your efforts in any way, including through capacity-building in the health sector,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister (CM) of Indian State of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has also extended her heartfelt greetings to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh on the auspicious occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.
PM’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said the West Bengal CM extended the greetings by sending a letter to the prime minister on Saturday.
“I’m extending many many greetings to you (prime minister), your family and all the people of Bangladesh through you on the occasion of the holy Eid-ul-Azha,” the press secretary quoted Mamata’s letter as saying.
The West Bengal CM, in the letter, said Eid-ul-Azha is a festival of sacrifice and it’s celebrated with due honour in India meaning West Bengal alongside Bangladesh. “We hope you (Sheikh Hasina) will pass the festival well,” Mamata said.
“We’re very close to each other, though West Bengal and Bangladesh are different geographically … the language and culture of both Banglas are same. So, I’m writing the letter for sharing the joy of the festival,” the West Bengal CM added.
“I hope that our next-door neighbour Bangladesh will progress further under your (Sheikh Hasina’s) leadership … be well and sound,” she said.
