Jabbar lauds Sajeeb Wazed Joy’s contribution to country’s digital revolution

DHAKA, July 28, 2020 (BSS) – Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar today said the role of Prime Minister’s ICT Affairs Adviser and Bangabandhu’s grandson Sajeeb Wazed Joy in the fourth industrial revolution of Digital Bangladesh is very much significant.

“Sajeeb Wazed Joy is the protagonist behind Bangladesh’s participation in the ongoing digital industrial revolution, which has surpassed hundreds of years of backwardness,” he said.

The minister stated this while addressing an online discussion on ‘Zoom’ platform organised by Bangladesh Satellite Company on the occasion of the birthday of Sajeeb Wazed Joy here.

The country has been known as the 57th country to launch a satellite for his dynamic roles for making digital Bangladesh, Jabbar said, adding that the authorities concerned also made preparations to launch the latest version of digital technology ‘5G technology’ for sincere endeavour of Joy.

“In the fourth industrial revolution, Bangladesh is a surprise in the eyes of the world,” he added.

Highlighting the government’s initiatives from 1996 to 2001 to make computers accessible to the general people, he said Joy has played an important role in withdrawing the VAT tax on computers and as a result, the path of digital revolution has started in the country.

“Under the guidance of Joy, we have started several digital programmes including starting 5G service, installation of third submarine cable and launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-2,” he said.

The minister mentioned the benefits of digital technology, which the people of the country are enjoying during the coronavirus pandemic, are the implementation of Joy’s time-befitting thinking in the development of digital technology.

The minister greeted Joy on his birthday and also virtually took part in a cake-cutting ceremony held at Sajeeb Wazed Satellite Ground Station Centre in Gazipur.

Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited (BCSCL) Chairman Shahjahan Mahmood moderated the virtual event while Post and Telecommunications Division Secretary Md Nur-Ur-Rahman spoke at the event.

The function was attended by officials of Satellite Company, Sajeeb Wazed Satellite Ground Stations of Gazipur and Betbunia and heads of various agencies of the Postal and Telecommunication Department.
