Govt support for welfare of mothers will continue: Shahab Uddin
DHAKA, July 25, 2020 (BSS)- Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Md Shahab Uddin today said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been lauded worldwide for its success in reducing maternal and child mortality rate.
“As a result of various effective measures taken by the government, the maternal and infant mortality rate in Bangladesh is currently lower than in many other countries of the world. Such supportive programmes of the government for the welfare of women and children will be continued,” a press release quoted by the minister saying that.
He said this while addressing as the chief guest of an online programme on maternity allowance distribution for the 2019-20 (FY), organised by Baralekha Upazila Department of Women’s Affairs in Moulvibazar district, according to the press release.
“The maternity allowance for pregnant mothers has been introduced with the foresight of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to prevent physical problems due to lack of nutritious food,” Shahab said.
Urging for the proper use of maternity allowance, the minister said in case of physical problems, one should take adequate nutritious food and medicines by doctor’s advice.
Calling upon all to wear masks to prevent coronavirus and maintain social distance, he also said that Bangladesh is more successful than most countries in the world in preventing coronavirus due to practical steps taken by the present government, the release added.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Baralekha upazila Nusrat Laila Nira presided over the function.
On the occasion, Baralekha Upazila Awami League General Secretary Md Anwar Uddin and Upazila Women’s Affairs Officer Shamsunnahar were also present as special guests.
