DHAKA, July 16, 2020 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today placed Regent Hospital Chairman Shahed Karim alias Md Shahed and Managing Director Masud Pervej on 10-day remand each in a case lodged for issuing fake COVID-19 test results, certificates and realizing money from patients illegally in the name of coronavirus tests and treatments.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jasim passed the order, also placing Shahed’s accomplice and hospital PRO Tarikul Islam alias Tarek Shibli on seven-day remand in the case.
The court came up with the order as investigation officer and detective branch inspector SM Gaffar Alam produced the trio before the court and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand each. Defence counsels, however, argued for cancelling the remand and releasing them on bail.
After hearing both the sides, the court passed its order amid a heightened security in and around the court.
During the hearing, only counsels from both the sides were allowed in the court, barring others including the newsmen from entering there.
Shahed was arrested by RAB from Debhata upazilla of Shatkhira in the early hours of July 15 and was airlifted to the capital on the morning.
