COVID-19 cases reach 7,962 in Khulna division

KHULNA, July 15, 2020 (BSS) – With detection of 320 more positive cases in the last 24 hours till this noon, the total number of COVID-19 infected patients in the division reached 7,962, said a COVID-19 quarantine and isolation related daily report here today.

“We received 282 samples at Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) and other samples at Jashore and Kushtia laboratories in the last 24 hours and 320 of those were found COVID-19 positive,” Assistant Director (Health) of Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akhter told BSS this noon.

She said the newly detected COVID-19 patients are 104 in Khulna, 65 in Jashore, 46 in Jhenaidah, 32 in Kushtia, 23 in Magura, 16 in Chuadanga, 15 in Bagerhat, 13 in Narail, four in Meherpur and two in Satkhira districts.

“Among the total 7,962 COVID-19 patients, 3,300 are in Khulna, 1,156 in Jashore, 1,051 in Kushtia, 535 in Jhenaidah, 435 in Narail, 432 in Satkhira, 358 in Bagerhat, 323 in Chuadanga, 260 in Magura and 112 in Meherpur districts,” Dr. Ferdousi added.

The number of recovered COVID-19 patients continues increasing along with a rise in the number of infected persons in recent weeks of the division, she said.

“With the healing of 298 more infected people, the total number of recovered patients rose to 3,582 with the recovery rate of 44.99 percent in the division till this noon,” the health official mentioned.

The recovered patients are being discharged from home isolations or dedicated corona isolation hospitals after disappearance of all symptoms and finding of two consecutive real-time PCR tests.

“Among the total 7,962 coronavirus infected persons, 834 are undergoing treatment at isolation units of different hospitals as 3,582 have recovered and 137 died while the rest are undergoing treatment in isolation at their respective homes under the division”, Dr. Ferdousi said.

With the five more deaths including two in Jhenaidah, two in Satkhira and one in Kusthia, the total number of fatalities now reached 137 in the division.

“The district-wise break-up of the fatalities remains at 48 in Khulna, 20 in Kushtia, 17 in Jashore, 10 in each in Jhenaidah and Satkhira, eight each in Narail and Bagerhat, seven in Magura, six in Meherpur and three in Chuadanga districts in the division”, she added.

Currently, the fatality rate among the total 7,962 COVID-19 patients stands at little over 1.72 percent in the division.
