COVID-19 cases reach 4,298 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 15, 2020 (BSS) – The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients reached 4,298 with 94 new positive cases reported during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division.

“The new 94 infected cases were reported after diagnosing 376 samples of the division at the two laboratories at Rangpur and Dinajpur on Tuesday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

“The district-wise break up of the 4,298 patients stands at 1,325 in Rangpur, 180 in Panchagarh, 498 in Nilphamari, 214 in Lalmonirhat, 286 in Kurigram, 267 in Thakurgaon, 1,039 in Dinajpur and 489 Gaibandha of the division,” he said.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients rose to 2,755 with the healing of 112 more people on Tuesday raising the average recovery rate of healing of the COVID-19 virus infected patients to 64 percent in the division.

“The 2,755 recovered COVID-19 patients include 925 of Rangpur, 126 of Panchagarh, 381 of Nilphamari, 147 of Lalmonirhat, 136 of Kurigram, 190 of Thakurgaon, 610 of Dinajpur and 240 of Gaibandha districts,”. Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS, Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the total number of fatalities rose to 73 with two more deaths reported from Rangpur and Dinajpur on Tuesday.

The average casualty rate among all 4,298 COVID-19 patients currently stands at around 1.70 percent in the division.

“The district-wise break-up of the 73 deceased people stands at 23 in Rangpur, 19 in Dinajpur, 10 in Gaibandha, eight in Nilphamari, five in Kurigram, four in Panchagarh and two each in Lalmonirhat and Thakurgaon districts of the division,” Dr. Khan said.

Among the total 4,204 COVID-19 patients, 178 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 2,755 recovered patients and 73 deaths while 1,292 remaining in home isolations in the division.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 332 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 417 others released in the division.

A total of 54,421 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 47,542 released and 6,879 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines since the beginning.

“Since the beginning we have tested a total of 33,705 collected samples of Rangpur division till Monday night, and of them, 4,298 were found COVID-19 positive with an infection rate of around 12.75 percent,” Dr. Khan said.

Currently, the government hospitals and health services providing facilities have a total manpower of 8,787, including 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff, to provide treatments to the infected patients in the division.

He specially call upon everyone to maintain physical distance, wear masks and abide by the health directives to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in the division.
