International Day against Drug Abuse celebrated in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA, June 26, 2018 (BSS) – International Day against Drug Abuse and
Illicit Trafficking-2018 was celebrated in the district today with a call to
build social movement and create much awareness among the people to have a
drug free society.
This year’s theme of the day was “Listen First: Listening to children and
youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe”.
Marking the day, district administration and district narcotics control
office under the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) chalked out the
elaborate programmes.
In the morning, a big colorful rally was brought out from Independence
Square and ended in front of Zila Shilpakala Academy after parading the main
roads of the town.
Later, a discussion meeting was held at the auditorium of ZSA of the town
at 10 am with additional district magistrate ABM Sadiqur Rahman in the chair.
Deputy Commissioner Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the function as the chief
guest and SP Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality
Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon were present as the special guests.
The speakers said it is quite impossible to build a drug free society for
the law enforcers alone until the movement is created from the family and the
society against drugs.
They also urged all to form anti drug committee in all the mahallas, paras
and the villages to establish drug free beautiful and healthy society through
protecting the youth community from addiction.
DC Gautam Chandra Pal sought whole hearted cooperation of all the
stakeholders to build social movement against the drugs through their active
participation to ensure peace and tranquility in the family and the society.
SP Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah termed the drug taking as social disease and
barrier to the socio-economic development of the country and said it would be
possible to eliminate drug abuse from the society through cordial efforts of all and
awareness activity.
