Family planning services containing population growth: experts

RANGPUR, July 12, 2020 (BSS) – Experts at a discussion here have said the government has achieved laudable success in reaching family planning services to all able couples to effectively contain population growth in the last 12 years.

They viewed this in the discussion organised by the Department of Family Planning (DFP) maintaining health directives at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner to observe the World Population Day- 2020 on Saturday afternoon.

The DFP jointly with the district health administration and other organisations arranged the discussion followed by distribution of prizes among best family planning assistants, female family planning visitors and different organisations for their extraordinary contributions to the population control programme.

Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam attended the discussion as the chief guest with Divisional Director (Joint Secretary) of the DFP Md. Mahbub Alam in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan, Civil Surgeon Dr. Herambo Kumar Roy, Deputy Director of the DFP Dr. Sheikh Md. Saidul Islam, Sadar upazila Chairman Nasima Zaman Boby and Pirganj Upazila Family Welfare Inspector Mostafizur Rahman Prodhan spoke.

Md. Mahbub Alam discussed the massive programmes being implemented by the government to provide advanced education on family planning issues to the able couples and common people to further contain population growth in the country.

Dr. Sheikh Md. Saidul Islam stressed on ensuring health and family planning education for adolescents, preventing adolescent pregnancy and child marriage to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths in attaining the sustainable development goals.

“The community clinics, union health and family welfare centers, mother and children welfare centers are playing important roles in imparting education on family planning to the rural people at the grassroots levels,” he added.

The chief guest called for encouraging all able couples in adopting short and long-term as well as permanent methods of family planning to contain population growth to further accelerate national development.
