COVID-19 cases exceed 4,000 mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 12, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases exceeded the 4,000 mark as 105 new patients were diagnosed positive with the deadly virus during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division. “The total number of COVID-19 patients stands at 4,041 in all eight districts of the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Among the total COVID-19 patients, 1,250 are of Rangpur, 171 of Panchagarh, 483 of Nilphamari, 205 of Lalmonirhat, 269 of Kurigram, 256 of Thakurgaon, 942 of Dinajpur and 465 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

During the last 24 hours, 465 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 252 others released from all eight districts in the division.

A total of 53,357 people were put in quarantines since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

“Among the total quarantined people, 46,712 have so far been released and 6,645 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

With one more death reported from Dinajpur on Saturday, the total number of fatalities remains steady at 69 with the fatality rate of 1.70 percent in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the fatalities remains at 21 in Rangpur, 17 in Dinajpur, 10 in Gaibandha, eight in Nilphamari, five in Kurigram, four in Panchagarh and two each in Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he added.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan the total number of healed COVID-19 patients rose to 2,512 with the recovery of 90 more infected patients in all eight districts of Rangpur division on Saturday.

The average recovery rate among the total 4,041 COVID-19 patients in the division now stands at 62.16 percent.

“The 2,512 recovered COVID-19 patients include 870 of Rangpur, 128 of Panchagarh, 345 of Nilphamari, 97 of Lalmonirhat, 135 of Kurigram, 178 of Thakurgaon, 553 of Dinajpur and 206 of Gaibandha districts,” Dr. Khan said.

A total of 32,671 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Saturday and found 4,041 coronavirus positive cases with the infection rate of 12.25 percent in the division.

“Currently, 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff are providing treatments to the infected patients in the government hospitals and other health services providing facilities to face the COVID-19 situation in the division,” Dr. Khan added.

Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam said the administrations and authorities concerned are working in a coordinated manner to prevent community transmission of COVID-19 in Rangpur division.

He specially called upon the common people to maintain physical distance, wear masks and abide by the health directives of the government to remain safe and keep others safe in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
