Shahab highlights necessity of tree plantation for proper survival

DHAKA, July 11, 2020 (BSS)- The effects of climate change are having a long-term and devastating effect on people, and so people must plant more and more trees to minimize the existing losses and to protect the environment from getting harmed.

It was stated by Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Shahab Uddin while addressing a view exchange meeting online, on the occasion of World Population Day 2020 from his ministry office today, said a release issued here.

“In order to survive, we need to increase the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere. Thus, more and more trees should be planted in available open spaces, and arrangements should be made to conserve it,” the minister added.

Later, he attended another view exchange meeting on coronavirus prevention, relief distribution and health management, organized at the Moulvibazar Deputy Commissioner’s Office under the theme ‘Prevent Epidemic Kovid-19, Ensure Health of Women and Adolescents’, added the release.

Shahab said that, “The maternal mortality, neonatal and infant mortality rate in the country has come down at a significant rate with the effective initiatives of the government. It has been possible to bring the rate of population growth and the birth rate of capable women to the desired level.”

The average life expectancy of the people has increased to 72.3 years due to various initiatives of the government, he said, added the release.

On the occasion of World Population Day-2020, awards were given to five best staff members and five organizations for evaluating the annual work of the District Family Planning Department, after the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Mir Nahid Ahsan and was attended by Nesar Ahmed, MP, Technical and Madrasa Education Department Secretary Aminul Islam Khan, District Council Chairman Azizur Rahman, Civil Surgeon. Tawheed Ahmad, and others.
