RCC to increase COVID-19 testing to contain spike

RAJSHAHI, July 10, 2020 (BSS) – Amid the rising number of COVID-19 patients in Rajshahi city alarmingly at present, Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has taken decision of bringing more suspected people under testing, isolation and treatment to contain the spike.

The city corporation, in a view-sharing meeting with officials and staff of its health division at the city bhaban conference hall on Thursday, discussed and devised ways and means on how to contain the spreading.

With Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton in the chair, the meeting was attended and addressed, among others, by Panel Mayor Shariful Islam Babu, Ward Councilor Nuruzzaman Tuku and Chief Executive Officer Dr Sharif Uddin.

Chief Health Officer Dr AFM Anjuman Ara Begum gave an overview of the coronavirus situation and its treatment and isolation in her multimedia presentation.

She told the meeting that 1,085 people have, so far, tested positive and of them 138 were recovered with six fatalities in the city till Thursday.

Mayor Liton said the health workers are collecting corona samples to the selected boots from door to door.

Two booths were set up one each at Divisional Women Sports Complex and Talaimary Adarsha School to sample collection. The city corporation has also planned to set up more booths to expedite the sample collection process, he added.

He also said the infected persons were brought under monitoring, follow-up and humanitarian assistance. Around 300 COVID-19 positive patients have, so far, received humanitarian assistance to mitigate their livelihood related difficulties caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Liton urged the city dwellers to maintain social distancing and other health protective measures to contain the Covid-19 spreading. He also urged them to be very much careful ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha as the cattle markers may be risky in terms of spreading the coronavirus.
