COVID-19 cases exceed 3,800 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, July 10, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases crossed the 3,800 mark as the highest number of 151 new patients was reported positive in a day in Rangpur division after testing their samples on Thursday.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 3,847 in all eight districts of the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

“Among the total 3,847 COVID-19 patients, 1,193 are of Rangpur, 165 of Panchagarh, 475 of Nilphamari, 191 of Lalmonirhat, 253 of Kurigram, 244 of Thakurgaon, 880 of Dinajpur and 446 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the number of recovered COVID-19 continues increasing along with rise in the number of infected patients in recent weeks in Rangpur division.

“With the healing of 74 more infected patients, the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 2,391 with the recovery rate of 62.15 percent in Rangpur division till 8 am today,” he said.

The 2,391 recovered COVID-19 patients include 836 of Rangpur, 126 of Panchagarh, 337 of Nilphamari, 97 of Lalmonirhat, 128 of Kurigram, 178 of Thakurgaon, 488 of Dinajpur and 201 of Gaibandha districts.

The recovered patients are being discharged from home isolations or Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals after disappearance of all symptoms and finding of two consecutive real-time PCR tests.

During the last 24 hours, 460 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 356 others released from all eight districts in the division.

A total of 52,498 people were put in quarantines since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Among them, 46,453 have so far been released and 6,045 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantines in the division.

With one two more deaths reported on Thursday with one each reported from Rangpur and Kurigram on Thursday, the total number of fatalities now stands at 68 in the division.

“The district-wise break up of the fatalities remains at 21 in Rangpur, 16 in Dinajpur, 10 in Gaibandha, eight in Nilphamari, five in Kurigram, four in Panchagarh and two each in Thakurgaon and Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” Dr. Khan added.

Currently, the fatality rate among the total 3,847 COPVID-19 patients stands at little over 1.76 percent in the division.

“Since the beginning, we have received a total of 31,919 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Thursday and found 3,847 coronavirus positive cases with the infection rate of 12.05 percent in the division,” he said.

After receiving a total of 1,73,316 pieces of personal protective equipment so far and 1,02,601 pieces of the same were distributed among the health service providers with a stock of 70,715 pieces in the division.

Divisional Commissioner (General) KM Tariqul Islam said all authorities concerned are working in a coordinated approach to prevent COVID-19 spread and provide health services to infected patients to face the situation.

“Everyone should sincerely maintain physical distance, abide by the health directives and wear masks to remain safe along with preventing community transmission of COVID-19,” Islam added.
