DNCC fines house owners 2.5lakh over finding Aedes larvae

DHAKA, July 9, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in a special combing operation realized Taka 2.5lakh as fine from 97 building and under-construction building owners in the city today after finding larvae of Aedes mosquito in and around their establishments.

The fine was imposed today, the sixth day of the second phase of a special clean-up operation or combing operation to protect city dwellers from dengue through Aedes mosquito control, said a press release here.

According to DNCC, 13,135 houses, installations, buildings under construction etc were inspected today and in a total of 97 establishments, Aedes mosquito larvae were found.

7,741 installation structures had a conducive environment for the breeding of Aedes mosquito.

A total of Taka 2,49,300 was fined in 14 cases, added the release.

The 10 day combing operation, which started on July 4, has so far inspected 79,440 houses, installations, buildings under construction, etc, and found a total of 564 Aedes larvae and 48,135 Aedes mosquito breeding grounds.

In these four days, a total of Taka 14,02,310 was collected in 108 cases as fines.

The operations were conducted in city’s Uttara, Mirpur, Mirpur-10, Mohakhali, Karwan Bazar, Harirampur, Uttarkhan, Dakshinkhan, Bhatara and Badda Satarkul areas, added the release.

During the combing operation, all possible Aedes mosquito breeding grounds have been cleaned and pesticides have been sprayed.

DNCC has asked the public to be vigilant in this regard.
