Murderer killed in Ctg gunfight with police
CHATTOGRAM, July 8, 2020 (BSS) – A murder accused killing a childv was gunned down in an alleged gunfight with police at city’s Zharnapara area early today, hours after slitting his the throat of his three years old nephew over family feud.
The deceased was identified as Jashim Uddin Raju, 32, hailed from Hajipara area under Doublemooring thana in the city.
One Light Gun, one cartridge, four round bullets and 875 pieces yaba tablets were recovered from the place of occurrence, Sudip Kumar Das, Officer-in-Charge of Double Mooring Police Station.
He said Raju had an altercation with his sister-in-law Nilu Akter over family issues on Tuesday night.
At one stage, Raju killed his nephew Mehrab Hossain, 03, son of Mohammad Rashed Mia, after slitting his throat and fled away.
Having information, a team of Doublemooring thana police went to the spot and recovered the dead body of Mehrab around 12 am. A case was filed in this connection in the night.
Based on information, Raju along with his associates gathered in Jharnapara area, police went to the spot and challenged them, the source added.
Sensing the presence of police team Raju opened fire towards police, prompting the law enforcers to fire back for self-defense, triggering the gunfight around 5.30 am on early today.
After the gun battle, police found the bullet-ridden body of Raju on the spot while his cohorts managed to flee the scene, he said.
Five policemen, including Sudip Kumar OC of Doublemooring thaha were injured in the gunfight.
Raju was wanted in 13 criminal cases, said police.
