Drug trader killed in Shibganj gunfight

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, June 25, 2018 (BSS) – An alleged drug trader was killed
and another was injured in a ‘gunfight’ with DB police at Chowka under
Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district this morning.

The deceased was identified as Qayum Sheikh, 30, son of Abdul Quddus of
Monakasha under Shibganj upazila of the district while the injured was Firoz,
38, son of late Kalimuddin, resident of Chowka village.

Police also arrested another person identified as Sony Ali, 30, son of
Sohobul Hoque of Chowka area from the spot.

TM Mozahidul Islam, Superintendent of Police of Chapainawabganj said acting
on a tip off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) police conducted a drive in the
area at around 3am.

During the drive, a gang of drug traders opened fire on police from the
house of Firoz, prompting them to fire back that triggered a gun battle.

After the gunfight, police rescued bullet-hit Qayum and Firoz from the
spot.

Later, the injured were taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where
Qayum succumbed to his injuries at around 7:30 am.

Police recovered a pistol, four rounds of bullet and 200grams of heroin
from the spot.

Police sources said the gang was involved in illegal drug trading for long
and a number of cases were filed against them with Shibganj thana.
