National Sports Council Act, 2018 placed in JS
SANGSAD BHABAN, June 25, 2018 (BSS) – The National Sports Council
Act, 2018 was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad today repealing the existing act of
1974 with a view to making the law time-befitting.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder piloted the proposed act in
the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
The proposed act will help develop the games and sports of the country and
coordinate their activities, said the state minister while placing the proposed act.
“The aim of the proposed act is to construct and make maintenance of different
sports establishments including stadium, gymnasium, swimming pool,
playground and training centers,” Dr Biren added.
Under the proposed act, he said, ‘Jatiya Krira Parishad Puroshkar’ will be
introduced side by side with ensuring financial help of the insolvent
sportspersons.
“Through the act, the government can declare any game as sport through a gazette
notification,” the state minister said.
Dr Biren urged the House to send the proposed act to the concerned
parliamentary standing committee on youth and sports and give report within 30
days.
