Witness testimony on Buriganga launch capsize tomorrow

DHAKA, June 30, 2020(BSS) – The probe body, formed to investigate the incident of launch capsize in the Buriganga River, will take the testimony of witnesses at Sadargaht here tomorrow.

Convener of the committee, joint secretary (development) Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan, requested witnesses of launch capsize and surviving passengers to present at the VIP terminal of BIWTA, Sadarghat from 11am to 3pm.

The Shipping Ministry has formed a seven-member probe-body hours after the launch capsized in Buriganga River on Monday morning and asked them to submit reports within next seven working days.

The investigation body will find out the reason behind the launch capsize, identify the persons or organisations responsible for the accident and set recommendation on how to prevent such type of mishaps in future.

At least 32 people died after a launch, plying on Dhaka-Munshiganj river route, with over 50 passengers sank in the river near Shyambazar area of Old town on Monday morning.
