E-services can ensure accountability, check corruption: Speakers

KHULNA, June 23, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a discussion here today
(Saturday) said extensive promotion of e-services has become vital for
ensuring accountability among the employees at government offices.

“E-services can also help people check all kinds of corruption,” the
speakers said while addressing a discussion on Public Service Day-2018, at
the conference room of deputy commissioner’s (DC) office in the city today.

With the theme of ‘Transforming governance to realize the sustainable
development goals,’ the Public Service Day-2018 was observed at all the
upazila headquarters and elsewhere across the country.

Khulna District Administration Office organized the meeting with
Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Moniruzzaman, in the chair. Divisional
Commissioner Lokman Hossain Mia addressed as the chief guest while Additional
Divisional Commissioner Md. Faruk Hossain and Nischinta Kumar Poddar, Police
Super S M Shafiullah, Director of the Department of Environment Habibul Haque
Khan and President of Khulna Press Club Faruk Ahmed, addressed as special
guests. Assistant Commissioner Shusmita Saha presented the key note paper.

Speaking at the discussion the chief guest urged the officials concerned
to provide requisite services at the doorsteps of the people within shortest
possible time.

He said over 5.0 crore people of the country got e-services from the Union
Information Service Centres (UISC) so far. Many entrepreneurs have also been
created in the country, who are now earning money through outsourcing, he
added.

He urged all government officials concerned for updating the official
website with the latest information to make public services reliable and
effective for all.

Representatives of different government offices made power point
presentations on building digital Bangladesh and its importance during the
age of globalization.

Earlier, a colorful rally led by Md. Faruk Hossain was brought out from
the premises of the Shaheed Hadis Park which ended at the Deputy
Commissioner’s Office after parading the main thoroughfares of the town.
