AL’s 69th founding anniversary observed in Khulna

KHULNA, June 23, 2018 (BSS) – The 69th founding anniversary of
Bangladesh Awami League, country’s oldest and prestigious political
organisation, was observed on Saturday (today) in the city and district
through different programmes.

The programmes included hoisting of the national and party flags,
placing of wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman, holding discussion, cutting of cakes and releasing of white
pigeons and balloons at the party offices in the city and district.

AL city and district unit leaders and workers formally inaugurated the
day’s programme by hoisting the national and party flags and releasing white
pigeons and balloons in front of party office around 7am.

On the occasion, local AL leaders and workers paid rich tribute to Father
of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his
portrait.

Besides, other front organisations of Awami League also placed wreaths in
observance of the day.

Later, a discussion meeting was held at the party office with its
district unit AL vice-president A F M Maksudur Rahman in the chair.

AL city and district unit leaders Mallick Abid Hossain Kabir, Beg Liakat
Ali, Mokbul Hossain Mintu, Shafiqur Rahman Palash, Mahbub Alam Sohag, among
others, spoke.

Founded on this day in 1949, Awami League has been transformed into a
mass organisation of the people of the country by leading all the democratic-
political-social-cultural movements including the long arduous freedom
struggle and the War of Liberation.

Though the country’s biggest political party was floated as Awami Muslim
League at the historical Rose Garden at KM Das Lane in Dhaka, the word
‘Muslim’ was dropped at its third council in 1955.
