COVID-19 cases climb to 1,281 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 5, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients rapidly climbed to 1,281 with 23 new positive cases reported during the last 24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the new 23 patients were found after testing of 376 collected samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur of Rangpur division on Monday.

Of them, 11 new infected patients of three northern districts were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city on Thursday.

“The 11 new patients include eight of Rangpur, two of Gaibandha and one of Lalmonirhat districts” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu told BSS today.

Meanwhile, 12 new infected patients of Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Nilphamari districts were reported on Thursday after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 12 new cases reported on Monday include eight of Thakurgaon, two of Dinajpur and two of Panchagarh districts,” said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker.

The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 451 in Rangpur, 86 in Panchagarh, 153 in Nilphamari, 48 in Lalmonirhat, 75 in Kurigram, 130 in Thakurgaon, 268 in Dinajpur and 70 Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said a total of 475 COVID-19 have so far fully recovered among the total 1,281 infected people in Rangpur division.

The 475 recovered patients include 198 of Rangpur, 19 of Panchagarh, 68 of Nilphamari, 24 of Lalmonirhat, 49 of Kurigram, 34 of Thakurgaon, 61 of Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts,” he added.

With one more death reported from Rangpur on Thursday, the total number of fatalities rose to 22 including nine of Rangpur, three of Gaibandha, four of Nilphamari, two each of Panchagarh, Dinajpur and Thakurgaon districts in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said the average recovery rate of COVID-19 patients currently stands at 37.08 percent while fatality rate stands at 1.71 percent in Rangpur division.

“Among the 1,281 coronavirus patients, 210 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 475 recovered patients and 22 deaths while 574 remaining in isolation at homes,” he said.

A total of 40,247 people were put in quarantine since the beginning, and of them, 34,767 released so far and 5,480 are remaining in home or institutional quarantine in the division.

“We have so far tested a total of 14,602 collected samples of suspected COVID-19 patients of Rangpur division, and of them 1,281 were reported positive with the percentage of 8.77 among the total tested samples,” he added.

After getting a total of 1,31,768 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 82,638 pieces of the same among the health service providers with a stock of 49,130 pieces in the division.
