DHAKA, June 3, 2020 (BSS)—The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) denied wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim a permission to resume personal training at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, citing players’ safety due to the outbreak of Covid-19.

The BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that they are still not convinced that it is safe to resume practice at individual capacity in the stadium.

“A few other players including Mushfiqur Rahim contacted with us as they wanted to begin personal training but we told them that they should train at home for the time being since this is not yet safe time to do so,” Chowhdury told the BSS here today.

A batsman known for his hard work, Mushfiqur time and again showed his willingness to resume training.

Even ODI skipper Tamim Iqbal said during his live show that Mushfiqur went mad after not getting the chance to have practice in Mirpur.

“Players’ safety is more important and we won’t do any compromise with that,” Chowdhury said, adding that they are in process to disinfect the whole ground in a bid to restart cricket.

“We are working on disinfecting our facilities. But the job is yet to be completed. Hopefully it will be done very soon after which we’ll mulling about giving the players an opportunity to have individual practice,” Chowdhury remarked.

Cricket remained suspended in Bangladesh since March 16 as the Covid-19 hit the country hard.

The global pandemic of coronavirus took 746 lives so far and infected over 55,000 in Bangladesh.
