Nigeria beat Iceland 2-0 in World Cup

DHAKA, June 22, 2018 (BSS) – Nigeria kept their hopes alive with an electrifying performance as they beat fancied Iceland by 2-0 goals in their second group D match of the FIFA World Cup held on Friday at Volgograd Arena, Volgograd in Russia.

Nigeria shot into lead in the 49th minutes as Ahmed Musa collects the ball from Iceland throw as readjusts the ball and then lashes into back of the net (1-0).

Again Musa doubled the score for Nigeria in 75th minutes of the play as he darts inside Iceland defender Arnason and rounds Uzoho (goalkeeper) and fires into empty goal (2-0). A few moments ago Musa saw his thunderous shot hit the crosspiece and return to play.

With this win, Nigeria opened their account with three points while Iceland remained at their previous credit of one point both playing two matches.

Iceland will play their next group match against Croatia while Nigeria will play Argentina on June 26.

Earlier, Nigeria suffered a 0-2 goal defeat to Croatia while Iceland played out to a 1-1 goal draw with Argentina in both their respective group opening matches.
