Int’l Public Service Day tomorrow


DHAKA, June 22, 2018 (BSS) – The International Public Service Day will be observed in the country as elsewhere across the world tomorrow under the auspices of the United Nations.

This year’s theme of the day is “Transforming Governance to Realise the Sustainable Development Goals’.

The government has chalked out an elaborate programme to celebrate the International Public Service Day in a befitting manner through displaying services before the public.

President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and United Nations Secretary General Ant›nio Guterres issued separate messages marking the day.

In his message, President Abdul Hamid asked the authorities concerned to ensure legitimate rights of people so that they could get hassle-free desired services in the quickest possible time.

Describing skilled civil service as the base of public administration, the President underlined the need for a skilled, dynamic and accountable public administration for smooth implementation of different people-oriented programmes of the government.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her message said the present government is firm to create a digital, effective and skilled public administration to fulfill hopes and aspiration of the people of Bangladesh.

She hoped that members of civil service will play an important role to turn Bangladesh into a development and progressed nation through implementing Vision 2021 and 2041 of the government.

The UN General Assembly, in its resolution 57/277 on December 20 in 2002, designated June 23 as Public Service Day to celebrate the value and virtue of public service, highlight contribution of public service in development process, recognize work of public servants and encourage young people to pursue careers in public sector.

The United Nations has introduced the “United Nations Public Service Awards” in recognition of excellence in public service on the occasion.
