Over 13.19 lakh Amphan affected people get relief in Khulna division

KHULNA, May 30, 2020 (BSS) – The government so far distributed 700 tonnes of rice, 6,000 packets dry food, 500 bundle corrugated iron sheet and Taka 36 lakh cash among 13.19 lakh cyclone affected people in different coastal districts here, said an official.

“Taka 24 lakh were distributed as cash assistance among cyclone affected people, Taka six lakh for purchasing baby food and Taka six lakh for purchasing livestock food,” the official of Khulna divisional administration office said.

“Taka 3, 20,000 and foodstuffs have been distributed among the families of deceased persons during cyclone Amphan in the division,” he added.

Each of the family received cash Taka 20,000, 20kg rice, two liters soyabin oil, two kgs pulse and five kgs potatoes.

Talking to BSS, Khulna divisional commissioner Dr Md Anwar Hossain Howlader today said army is assisting the ongoing embankments repairing works.

At least 4.5 kilometers dykes were damaged breaking 51 points in Khulna, Satkhira and Bagerhat coastal upazilas, he said, adding the government is going to take a project involving Taka 1200 crore to repair the damaged embankments.

Amphan made landfall in India and Bangladesh on May 20 evening, wreaking havoc in Bangladesh coastlines and in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Meanwhile, state minister for water resources Zaheed Farooque yesterday visited Koyra, Shyamnagar and Ashashuni upazilas for witnessing post Amphan damages.
