MUNSHIGANJ, May 30, 2020 (BSS) – The 30th span of the 6.15-kilometre long Padma Bridge was installed on the 26th and 27th pillars at Jajira point in the district this morning amid the coronavirus(COVID-19) situation, making visible 4.5km of the main structure.
“The 150 meter long span named ‘5-B’ was installed at 9.35 am and it has made 4.5 kilometers (km) visible of the Bridge,” Dewan Md Abdul Quader, an executive engineer of Padma Multipurpose Bridge, told BSS.
He said the 31st span of the Padma Bridge on the 25th and 26th pillars is expected to be installed on June 20 as per the schedule.
The 30th and 31st spans will help touch the Mawa part directly from the Jajira end of the bridge.
Along with the spans installation, construction work of roadway slabs and railway slabs is also progressing simultaneously, the official added.
As per the project details, the construction of the 6.15-kilometre long Padma Bridge is going on in full swing amid the nationwide shutdown with the target of completing it within the stipulated time.
On October 14, 2018, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina unveiled the name plaque of Padma Bridge Toll Plaza at the Mawa end. According to experts, the national economy is expected to witness 1.2 percent GDP growth rate, while 0.84 percent poverty will be reduced every year after completion of the bridge with an estimated cost of Taka 30,193.39 crore.
The first span of the Padma Bridge was installed on September 30, 2017.
