COVID-19 cases cross 900 mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 28, 2020 (BSS) – The total recorded number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases in Rangpur division crossed 900 mark amid continuous rising trend in community transmission of the deadly virus in several areas.

Health officials said the total number of patients climbed to 908 as a record number of 60 new people was diagnosed positive after testing 376 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Wednesday.

Among the 60 new patients diagnosed on Wednesday, 15 are from Rangpur, two of Nilphamari, one of Lalmonirhat, three of Kurigram, four of Thakurgaon, 31 of Dinajpur and four of Gaibandha districts in the division.

The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 patients stands at 375 in Rangpur, 55 in Panchagarh, 98 in Nilphamari, 34 in Lalmonirhat, 63 in Kurigram, 67 in Thakurgaon, 179 in Dinajpur and 37 Gaibandha in the division. “A total of 12,899 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested so far and 908 positive cases found with the percentage of over 7.04 in the division,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Meanwhile, 12 fatalities were reported so far with five from Rangpur, three from Gaibandha, two Nilphamari and one each from Dinajpur and Panchagarh districts in the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 243 COVID-19 patients were released after their recovery from the 15 Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals in all eight districts of Rangpur division till 8 am today.

“The percentage of recovery among all 908 coronavirus infected patients stands now at over 26.76 in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Among the recovered COVID-19 patients, 80 of Rangpur, 10 of Panchagarh, 38 of Nilphamari, 12 of Lalmonirhat, 26 of Kurigram, 23 of Thakurgaon, 32 of Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 37,029 people were put in quarantine since the beginning, and of them, 30,819 released so far and 6,480 are remaining in home or institutional quarantine.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 454 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 543 others released from all eight districts in the division.

Among the total 908 coronavirus patients, 163 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 243 recovered patients and 12 deaths while 490 remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

After getting a total of 1,31,759 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, we have already distributed 77,207 pieces of the same with a stock of 54,552 pieces in stock in the division.

“The COVID-19 patients are getting treatments at 25 quarantine and isolation centres with 2,552 beds. We have 13 beds with 13 ventilators at two intensive care units of two hospitals in the division,” Dr. Khan added.

Dr. Khan suggest the people to stay at home, strictly maintain physical distancing and abide by the health directives to remain safe and keep the other people safe and sound as community transmission of the virus continues at places.
