Virtual courts grant bail to 28 more accused in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, May 28, 2020 (BSS) – A total of 28 more accused in custody were given bail in virtual courts through disposal of 82 bail petitions filed before the courts here on Wednesday.

Of them, two get bail in district and session judge court, 18 in metropolitan session judge court, three in chief metropolitan magistrate court and another five in chief judicial magistrate court.

Hearings of the cases took place in the courts through video conferencing.

Public Prosecutor and special public prosecutors placed their respective statements on behalf of the state in each of the cases through video conferencing while the advocates took part in hearings of the cases in the virtual court from their respective places defending their clients.

After hearing both sides, the courts granted bail to 28 accused in custody.

Public Prosecutor Ibrahim Hossain told the journalists that the virtual courts have been launched for bail hearing of the accused in custody after the best uses of information and communication technologies amid the Covid-19 pandemic at the directive of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

Earlier in three consecutive days, the virtual courts granted bail to 519 custodial accused since launching activities of those on May 17 last here.
