COVID-19 cases cross 800 mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 26, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases
crossed the 800 mark as 19 more new patients were diagnosed with the virus infection at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur division on Monday.

“The total number of COVID-19 patients now stands at 813 in Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS this noon.

“The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 352 in Rangpur, 51 in Panchagarh, 92 in
Nilphamari, 30 in Lalmonirhat, 60 in Kurigram, 63 in Thakurgaon, 132 in Dinajpur and 33
Gaibandha in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Since the beginning, a total of 213 COVID-19 patients were discharged from the 15 Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals in all eight districts of the division till 8 am today.

The 213 recovered COVID-19 patients include 65 of Rangpur, 10 of Panchagarh, 33 of
Nilphamari, six of Lalmonirhat, 26 of Kurigram, 23 of Thakurgaon, 28 of Dinajpur and 22 of
Gaibandha districts.

“Currently, the percentage of recovery among all 813 coronavirus infected patients stands at
around 26.20 in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said a total of 12,147
collected samples of Rangpur division were so far tested, and of them, 813 found coronavirus positive with the percentage of 6.69.

Among the total 813 coronavirus patients, 150 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after release of 213 recovered patients and 12 deaths while 438 are remaining in isolation at homes.

“A total of 36,220 people were put in quarantine, and of them, 29,630 released so far while 6,590 are currently remaining in home or institutional quarantine in Rangpur division,” Dr. Khan said.

During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, 236 people were put in quarantine at home or institutions and 650 others released.

A total of 12 fatalities were reported so far with five from Rangpur, two Nilphamari and one
each from Dinajpur and Panchagarh and three from Gaibandha districts in Rangpur division.
After getting a total of 1,31,759 pieces of personal protective equipment so far, 76,143 pieces of the same were so far distributed with a stock of 55,616 pieces.

“Presently, we have 2,552 beds at 25 quarantine and isolation centres and 13 beds with 13
ventilators at two intensive care units of two government hospitals to provide treatments to the COVID-19 patients,” Dr. Khan added.

The government hospitals and other health services providing facilities of Rangpur division have 1,123 physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff now.

“Currently, the government hospitals and other health services providing facilities have 1,123
physicians, 1,757 nurses and 5,907 other staff to face the COVID-19 situation in the division,” he said.
