27 more test positive for coronavirus in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 18, 2020 (BSS) – Twenty-seven more people were tested
positive for coronavirus today at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in
Rangpur and Dinajpur raising the total number of patients to 605 in
Rangpur division.

Health officials said the new nine infected patients were reported
after testing a total of 376 samples at the two laboratories in
Rangpur division today.

“Nine patients were reported after testing 188 samples at the
COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC),” said Chief of
Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal
of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu.

The nine new patients include four of different areas in Rangpur
metropolis, one each of Sadar, Gangachara and Pirgachha upazilas in
Rangpur and two female police constables of Kurigram Police Lines in
Kurigram district.

“Chairman of Rangpur Sadar upazila parishad Nasima Zaman Boby is
among the four newly infected patients of Rangpur metropolis,” Dr.
Lyzu added.

Meanwhile, 18 new infected patients were reported after testing 188
samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at MARMC in Dinajpur today.

“The 18 new patients include 12 of four upazilas in Dinajpur, four
of two upazilas in Panchagarh and one each of Mithapukur upazila in
Rangpur and Pirganj upazila of Thakurgaon,” Principal of MARMC
Professor Dr. Shibesh Sarker told BSS tonight.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur
division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the total number of COVID-19 rose to 605
in Rangpur division with the newly infected 27 patients today.

“The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 patients now stands at
278 in Rangpur, 24 in Panchagarh, 64 in Nilphamari, 27 in Lalmonirhat,
57 in Kurigram, 36 in Thakurgaon, 95 in Dinajpur and 24 Gaibandha
districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
