Disinfection room installed at Rajshahi Railway station

RAJSHAHI, May 18, 2020 (BSS) – As part of its necessary process of restarting railway services, the West zone of Bangladesh Railway has installed disinfection rooms in both incoming and outgoing paths in Rajshahi railway station to stem novel coronavirus (COVID-19) spread.

“We have installed the rooms at the directives of the railway higher authority,” said Ahsan Ullah Bhuiyan, Chief Commercial Manager (CCM) of the zone, adding health protective measures including social distancing and other protection by the passengers in general is very important amid the pandemic.

The Zone has kept the railway passenger services with other parts of the country suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic since March 25 last.

However, the train for transporting necessary goods on Dhaka-Panchagarh route is on functioning at present while the train services on Khulna-Dhaka route is likely to resume soon.

CCM Ahsan Bhuiyan said the west zone is taking preparations to restart the train services in limited form either before the Eid-ul-Fitr or after the Eid. There is a 19-point direction to be followed before restarting the services. To this end, implementation works of the directives are progressing one after another with close monitoring and supervision by the railway authority.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque has invited the businessmen to take the opportunity of transporting mango from Rajshahi to Dhaka through train.

He said mangoes could be transported to Dhaka at comparatively low cost and requested the traders to contact railway authority in this regard to avail the scope.
