DHAKA, Aug 21, 2017 (BSS)-Rail communications of Dhaka with northern and south-western parts of the country resumed in the afternoon, a day after it’s suspension.

“The rail link was restored at about 5 pm,” said Habibur Rahman, additional director general (operation) of Bangladesh Railway.

All trains services to northern and south-western parts of the country with the capital were suspended on Sunday as a railway bridge was partly damaged in Kalihati upazila of Tangail due to the onrush of floodwater.

A portion of the bridge was collapsed on Sunday morning as soon as Dhaka- bound Sundarban Express crossed the area, said the official.

A task force of around 300 people, including two units of firefighters, has worked relentlessly since yesterday, Railway’s West Zone Chief Engineer Ramjan Ali told BSS

Meanwhile, Dhaka-bound Rangpur Express, which was stuck at the east-end of Bangabandhu Bridge since yesterday, was seen passing the repaired rail track in Tangail at about 5:20 pm, reports our Tangail correspondent.
