BADC Act, 2018 Bill places in JS to ensure food security

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 19, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation Act, 2018 Bill was placed in the Jatiya Sangsad through repealing the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation Ordinance, 1961with a view to ensure the supply of the all necessary inputs and equipments including fertilizer, irrigation, seed and ingredients and machineries for horticulture development at the farmers level.

Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury placed the bill at the house with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury in the chair.

The enactment of the law will help to continuous supply of all the necessary agricultural ingridients and inputs for the farmers to ensure food security for the increasing population.

The act will help to take necessary steps by producing certified and quality seed of jute, pulse, cereal food crops, potato, oilseed, vegetable and other crops through the contact growers, according to the draft act.

Even the new act will also help the judicial use of the water resources by using and conservation of surface and rain water, it said, adding that innovation of new crop variety and release it with the name of the corporation.

The agriculture minister urged the house to send the draft bill to the parliamentary standing committee for further scrutiny within 10 days.
