RANGPUR, April 10, 2020 (BSS) – As the symptom of spreading community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19), more 210 people have been quarantined at home and institutions in the last 24 hours in Rangpur division.
The local administrations with assistance of the Armed Forces, law enforcement agencies, public representatives and voluntary organisations have further intensified efforts to ensure social distancing to prevent (COVID-19) spread.
Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS that a total of 210 people have been quarantined at home and different health service providing facilities in the last 24 hours in the division.
Among the 210 people, none has been quarantined in Rangpur, Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat while 10 people have been quarantined in Panchagarh, 25 in Kurigram, 55 in Thakurgaon, 90 in Dinajpur and 17 in Gaibandha districts during the period.
“Since March 10 last, a total of 4,148 people were put on home or institutional quarantines, and of them, 3,235 released after expiry of their 14-day quarantine till today in Rangpur division,” he said.
He said 14 suspected coronavirus patients were admitted to the isolation units of different hospitals in Rangpur division since the beginning, and of them, eight released so far till yesterday.
“A total of nine people of Rangpur division have been tested COVID-19 positive so far and seven of them are undergoing treatments at the isolation units of different hospitals,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
Talking to BSS, Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Amin Ahmed Khan said the capacity of providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients, if their number increases in the future, is being enhanced across Rangpur division.
“Along with the prevailing health service facilities in the government hospitals, the private sector hospitals having better facilities will be used as Corona Units for providing treatments to the COVID-19 patients, if necessary,” he said.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Zakir Hossain said the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies and public representatives are extending maximum assistance to local administrations in conducting hectic campaigns to prevent COVID-19 spread.
“We have put maximum importance on ensuring social distancing, providing treatments to COVID-19 patients and food to the distressed, jobless, needy and backward people both in urban and rural areas of Rangpur division,” he added.
Highly appreciating the role of mass media in raising public awareness and inspiring people to remain at home, he called upon everyone to abide by health directives of the government for preventing community transmission of COVID-19.
