Quarantined people’s number reduces to 479 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 07, 2020 (BSS) – The number of quarantined people has reduced to 479 today with release of more 74 people during the last 24 hours as the overall coronavirus (COVID-19) situation still remains under control in Rangpur division.

Health officials said a total of 3,512 people were so far put on home or institutional quarantine and of them, 3,131 were released after expiry of their 14-day quarantine period without any symptoms of COVID-19 infection.

Eleven persons were put in the isolation units of different hospitals so far and six of them were released and five others are undergoing treatments there today in the division.

Besides, six people have tested COVID-19 positive so far and five of them are getting treatments at the hospitals.

“Meanwhile, only 30 people have been put on home or institutional quarantine in the last 24 hours in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

Talking to BSS, Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Amin Ahmed Khan said collection of samples of suspected COVID-19 infected patients continues from the district, upazila and union levels of the division.

“The COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College Hospital tested collected 42 samples of suspected COVID-19 infected patients on April 3 and 27 samples on April 6 and is testing 53 samples using the PCR machine today,” he said.

The Civil Surgeons, Superintendents of District Sadar Hospitals and Surveillance Immunization Medical Officers of the World Health Organisation are supervising the sample collection process at the field levels.

Dr. Khan highly lauded the sincere activities being conducted by the Armed Forces, police and RAB-13 in maintaining social distancing for preventing community transmission COVID-19 in Rangpur division.

“We are enhancing capacity to provide treatments to COVID-19 patients keeping the Isolation Unit of Rangpur Medical College Hospital, other government and private sector health services facilities across the division ready to use as Corona Units,” he added.

Talking to BSS, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Zakir Hossain said the Armed Forces, police RAB-13 and other law enforcement agencies are working broadly to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

“We have put due importance on ensuring social distancing, providing treatments to COVID-19 patients and giving food assistance to the distressed, jobless and needy people,” he added.

He especially called upon the common people to remain at home, properly following the health directives of the government and maintaining cleanliness to remain safe by preventing community transmission of COVID-19 in the division.
