Distribution of essentials among poor goes on in Khulna

KHULNA, April 5, 2020 (BSS) – As part of the government’s ongoing food
support programme to mitigate the hardship caused by the coronavirus
outbreak, the local administrations, law enforcement agencies and public
representatives have been distributing essential items, including food among
the needy, jobless, destitute and disabled families in different areas of the
district.

Khulna divisional administration, district administrations, Khulna city
corporation, Bangladesh Navy Khulna region, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB),
Khulna Press Club, local Awami League (AL) leaders, socio-cultural activists
and non-government and volunteer organisations have been distributing
essential foods among the needy, jobless, destitute and poor people at their
doorsteps to mitigate the hardship caused by the outbreak of corona virus.

Meanwhile, State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Munnujan Sufian
has decided to distribute food among 20,000 labourers in the district to
overcome their financial hardship caused by the deadly disease.

She called upon the people to strictly follow the directives, particularly
‘stay at home’ rule, to check the spread of the disease.

As part of the country-wide instant ‘humanitarian support’ Mayor of Khulna
City Corporation Talukder Abdul Khaleque yesterday afternoon distributed
rice, pulses, oils, potato, soap and masks among 2,400 needy, jobless and
destitute people in the city’s eight wards.

General Secretary of City AL Babul Rana and the councilors’ of the
respective wards were present on the occasion.

While talking to BSS today, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer
(DRRO) of Khulna Md Azizul Haque Zoarder said the government recently
allocated 400 metric tons of rice and Taka 10 lakhs for the purpose.

“We have already allocated 490 tons of rice for nine upazilas and Khulna
City Corporation area for distribution of 10 kg rice among 55,000 jobless
families each with the assistance of the local union parishad chairmen and
members and word councilors,” he said.
