CCC asks residents of risky hillocks to move safer places

CHATOGRAM, June 12, 2018 (BSS) – Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) today
asked the people living in risky hillocks in the city to leave the places to
avoid disaster and loss of lives during the upcoming rainy season.

Staff and employees of the CCC since the morning through loudspeakers
urged residents living in the risky hill slopes of Debpahar, Tigerpass,
Battali Hill and Miar Pahar areas to move safer places without any delay.

The port city and its adjoining areas have been experiencing heavy
shower since Saturday triggering the risk of landslides in many areas.

It is mentionable, at least 11 people were killed in four separate
landslides at Naniarchar upazila of Rangamati district on Monday night.

In spite of knowing the ensuing dangers, the people of low income group
mostly the rickshaw pullers and day labourers make up their temporary
settlements and start living in those hills, CCC sources said.
