Indictment in case for derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu March 1

DHAKA, Jan 29, 2020 (BSS) – A court here today set March 1 to hold hearing
on charge framing in a case filed against Begum Khaleda Zia for making
alleged derogatory remarks about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the
present government.

Today was fixed for holding the indictment hearing, but the defence
pleaded for time. Allowing the defence plea, Dhaka Additional Metropolitan
Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur set the new date.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ziaur Rahman on August 4, 2019, transferred
the case to this Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate court as it was
ready to start the proceedings.

The court on March 20 issued warrant to arrest BNP Chairperson Begum
Khaleda Zia as Jananetri Parishad president AB Siddiqui filed the case
against her on January 25, 2017, for making those alleged derogatory remarks
at a rally at capital’s Engineering Institute on December 31, 2016.

After recording statement of the plaintiff, the court had asked the
Shahbagh Police Station authorities to submit a report in this regard.

Investigation officer and officer in-charge (investigation) of Shahbagh
Police Station Jafar Ali Biswas submitted the probe report against the BNP
chief on June 30, 2018.
