Eid shopping gains momentum in Khulna city

KHULNA, June 9, 2018 (BSS)-In the run up to the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, one
of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, Eid shopping fever has
gained a significant momentum in Khulna City with modern and traditional
shopping malls bustling with shoppers from all walks of life.

With only seven days left for the festival, thousands of people are seen
purchasing items of their own choice with huge enthusiasm despite
considerable rises in prices of all kinds of clothes compared to the last
year.

While talking to BSS correspondent, a good number of shop owners said sales
were showing an upward trend in the last couple of days as private and public
service holders have already received their Eid bonuses.

Market sources said salesmen of different markets and makeshift sales
centers are passing busy time from morning to midnight as people of all ages
gathered there to buy their dresses and other items to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.

Shopping at New Market, Nixon Market and other leading shopping mall has
gained special momentum as Eid of Khulna people is interlinked with varieties
Indian and Bangladeshi dresses.

Different Indian clothes, Bangladeshi silk, muslin, jamdani, tangail,
mirpuri katan and traditional sarees, are on tremendous demand in the Eid
markets of the city.

Businessmen, market association leaders and shoppers are happy over the
government initiatives for creating a favorable trading atmosphere during the
Ramadan. The shoppers said they are doing good business in a secured and safe
environment.

Deployment of huge police personnel at different strategic city points and
market places, intensive surveillance by the police and engagement of private
security men at shopping malls by the concerned authorities have ultimately
created a full-proof security arrangement for businessmen as well as
shoppers.

“We are doing our business very well this year as people seem to be
relieved from the sense of insecurity. Even as a businessman, I have not
faced any untoward situation relating to law and order from the first week of
Ramadan,” said Md Amirul Islam Alif, joint secretary of KDA New Market
Association and owner of ‘Aponjona’ a sari and three-piece shop.

M A Kafi, secretary of Markets Owners Association of Khulna, said local
products particularly salwar-kameez sets for girls, shoes, sharees with
embroidery and stone work, panjabees, shirts and trousers produced by
different local fashion houses are attracting the customers.

Buyers as well as shoppers said dresses like salwar-kameez, panjabi, sharee
and other dresses made for children by fashion houses, using the local
fabrics and materials, are getting more preferences of the fashion lovers.
